The Night of Herat: Celebrating Herat's History in Tehran


In a collaborative effort between cultural institutions in Iran and Afghanistan, Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) hosted a program titled "Celebrating Herat's History; Book Launch in Tehran." The program commenced with a recitation by Khwaja Abdullah Ansari and a live performance of the patriotic song "Watan eishqe tu eiftekharam." Dr. Mandana Tishehyar, the academic editor of the book "A History of Herat: From Chengiz Khan to Tamerlane," and Dr. Mahandrarra spoke about his book. The academic speakers, including Dr. Kazem Kazemi, Dr. Ranjbar, Dr. Bahmani Qajar, Mr. Kianoush Motaghi, and Alireza Rajaei, delved into the cultural, historical, and artistic aspects of Herat.

A special message from the Minister of Cultural Heritage of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ezzatollah Zarghami, was read by Deputy Minister Dr. Maryam Jalali. The ceremony concluded with the introduction and playing of the rabab, recitation of local Herati couplets, and a traditional music concert featuring the artistry of Mehdi Afshar.

The event also featured visits to the exhibition of miniatures by Ustad Behzad, distribution of the book "100 Yaqoot-e Herat," and hospitality with local Herati cuisine.
