Book Launch “Afghan Napoleon: The Life of Ahmad Shah Massoud”


The Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies held the unveiling of the book titled "Napoleon of Afghanistan" in the hall of the Center for Linear Heritage of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan in the city of Dushanbe on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. A large number of civil activists, researchers, and university professors were present at this meeting.

The book "Napoleon of Afghanistan" was written by British author Sandy Gall. It details the life of Ahmad Shah Massoud. This book was translated into Persian by Zubair Sohail and was published by Afghan Institute of Strategic Studies.

Professor Qasim Shah Sekander, the head of the Association of Cultural Relations and Friendship between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, mentioned that Ahmad Shah Massoud was a famous legend in the history of Afghanistan. He noted that this book recounts the facts of his struggle, and Mr. Sandy Gall spent many years writing it.

During the program, Ms. Fiona Gall spoke on behalf of Sandy Gall, the author of the book, explaining how the book was written. She described it as a valuable source for better understanding Ahmad Shah Massoud. Furthermore, Dr. Seyed Khawaja Alizadeh, a doctor of literature and an expert on Afghanistan affairs, discussed the role of Ahmad Shah Massoud in the developments of the 1980s and 1990s in Afghanistan. He considered Mr. Massoud as one of the most important and influential figures of that period in Afghanistan. Subsequently, Dr. Shamsul Haq Arianfar, Mohammad Alam Izdiyar, Dr. Sina Deliri, Fazl Ahmed Manavi, and Dr. Karamatullah Alamof, a professor of political science at the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, joined the discussion on various aspects of Ahmad Shah Massoud's life and political career.

Towards the end of the program, some of the guests shared their views on the personality and role of Ahmad Shah Massoud, and the session concluded with questions and answers.

The translation department of the Afghanistan Institute of Strategic Studies is committed to supporting young Afghan translators and cooperating with them in publishing their works.
