AISS holds first International Symposium on “Herat School of Security”


November 18-19, 2015

The Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) organized the first International Symposium on “Herat School of Security” in Kabul, Afghanistan. The symposium was attended by experts and officials from Afghanistan, the region and wider international community. This symposium was devoted to discuss, “Merging Sufism, literature and Security Studies”, based on Herat`s history of political Sufism. During the two days symposium eight working sessions held under the following themes: 1) In Quest of Humane Security, 2) Peace & Tolerance in Literature of the Region, 3) Irfan & Sufism: Power and Security 4) Social & Political Status of the Women throughout History 5) Peace & Tolerance in Pashtu Literature and its Social and Political Impact, 6) Timurid  Era of Herat: A Mirror for Tolerance and Humanitarian Civilization  7) Local Approaches; Historical Heritage and Conflict Resolution of Afghanistan and 8) The Way forward.
